Hi Fam!
New week, new levels of understanding! Buckle up ya'll, let's embark on a transformative adventure—the journey of the Greatest Commandment. Matthew 22:37-39 unfolds the core directive of our faith: a wholehearted love for God and an extension of that love to our neighbors. God really had to tell us numerous times to love the people around us - I wonder why..
Jesus sets the stage by emphasizing the importance of love in our relationship with God. It's not a superficial affection but a radical, all-encompassing commitment that engages the core of our being—heart, soul, and mind. This is the supreme commandment, the heart of our faith journey.
Yet, the commandment doesn't stop there; it seamlessly extends to the second part: "Love your neighbor as yourself." It's a call to relational excellence, urging us to treat others with the same care, respect, and consideration we give ourselves. THAT PART! This comparison highlights how our love for God and our love for other people are closely connected and intertwined.
Loving God with all our heart means more than just having sentimental feelings (which you know because you've read the previous blog posts). It's a deep and heartfelt connection where we recognize God's greatness and respond with sincere adoration. Loving God with all our soul is embracing our innermost being—a spiritual connection that brings us into God's presence. And loving God with all our mind encourages us to think deeply about our faith, reflecting on the immense extent of God's love with a thoughtful mind.
Think of love as a force capable of transforming not just individuals but entire communities. It's not a passive emotion but an active, dynamic energy that can bridge gaps, heal wounds, and bring about positive change. Our love, inspired by God's love for us, becomes a powerful force for good in the world.
Turning love into action means doing practical things like listening, not being judgmental, and showing empathy. It's a promise to notice what others need and genuinely care about their well-being. Is this a promise you're willing to make? This is what it means to "love your neighbor as yourself"—making a conscious effort to build a community where people support each other with kindness.
Dear God, strengthen me to love You wholeheartedly, engaging my heart, soul, and mind. Guide me in extending that love to those around me, understanding how these commandments are closely connected. May my love be transformative, making a positive impact in the lives of others. Amen.
As you navigate the complexities of daily life, carry the awareness of this deep commandment. Let your love for God radiate through your actions, and may your love for others be a testament to the transformative (heart, soul and mind) power of the greatest commandment.
This series is winding down - I hope it's been eye opening for you just as much as it's been for me. Some things may have been said more than once throughout the month but its essential we understand the importance of God's love in our wellness journey.
I want to hear from you! Send me an email, DM, chat, anything at all - I'm patiently waiting to hear your thoughts, prayers, questions, and even encouragement.
Lastly, your girl is on a journey to building a community. My website will have some pretty major updates throughout the next few weeks and I'm beyond excited! Stay tuned.
Love,
Keps
